Westminster Day of Dance 2nd May 2026

When we asked our Bagman what the most difficult thing was when organising this event, her reply was “Events, dear boy, Events”.

We had originally planned on 16th May and had a large group of guests all lined up and chomping at the bit… Then the dreaded “Events” cropped up.

The only other workable date was 2nd May, and that’s what we’ve gone with. Being a bank holiday weekend, this caused problems for many of our guests who had long-established other things to do.

The select few who are able to attend are

Belles of London City
Greensleeves Morris Men
Letchworth Morris
Thaxted Morris Men

The times and places are below but please note that all times quoted are in BMT (British Morris Time) which is BST plus or minus an indeterminate amount of time dependant upon multiple factors (including, but not limited to, pubs and the quality of the beer they are serving).

10.00-11.00 Victoria Tower Gardens, Abingdon St, Millbank, SW1P 3JA. Burghers of Calais statue. https://w3w.co/cool.galaxy.broad

11.15-12.15 Westminster Arms, 9 & 10 Storey’s Gate, SW1P 3AT. https://w3w.co/booth.spicy.loss

13.00-13.45 St Margaret’s, Margaret Street, SW1P 3JX. https://w3w.co/moth.thanks.volunteered

14.15-15.00 Trafalgar Square,

15.15-16.00 Trafalgar Square,

16.15/16.30 – Until we’ve all had enough. 2 Venues…
Ship and Shovell, 2 Craven Passage, WC2N 5NF. https://w3w.co/track.chase.hops and

ALL CHANGE PLEASE! Day of Dance 2nd May 2026

This has been a difficult decision but we have to change the date of our Day of Dance from 16th May to 2nd May 2026.

We know that there will be another Unite the Kingdom march on Saturday 16th May, our original date. While we have not been able to discover detailed information about their route, we have assumed that it will be similar to the route for their march last September and will take in Parliament Square, Whitehall and probably Trafalgar Square. There are likely to be a lot of people and it will be noisy.

Our main concern is for the safety of our guests and their enjoyment of the day but we are also worried about the reputational damage to morris if we are surrounded by the Unite the Kingdom march with all the possibilities of being connected with them and subsequent unwanted publicity in the media.

In addition it is the Cup Final on 16th May, so there will probably be a lot of football fans in Trafalgar Square as well.

We realise that dancing at Trafalgar Square is a highlight for many of our guests and fortunately the Greater London Authority are able to offer us another date, Saturday 2nd May. We plan to go ahead with that date although we realise that this may cause problems for those with other commitments, such as the Rochester or Hastings weekends.

We hope that you can join us on our new date and we look forward to hearing from you.

Details of who, when and where can be found on this page.
What, you already know and why, you’ll have to figure out for yourself.

New dancers always welcome. Here is a photo of Lewis and James with Letchworth at the Etcetera Morris New Year’s Day dance at the Wonder.
